DeepSeek V4 Pro vs V4.1 Flash: what is different and which to use
DeepSeek V4 Pro and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash are the two DeepSeek models people compare most in 2026. V4 Pro is the large model of the V4 generation: 1.6 trillion parameters with 49 billion active, previewed on 24 April 2026 and released as GA on 13 August. V4.1 Flash followed on 10 September 2026: a 552-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model on a new architecture, which DeepSeek calls the smallest model of its new family.
The usual rule that the bigger model is the stronger one does not hold here. In the V4.1 Flash release note DeepSeek says the new Flash delivers benchmark results ahead of flagship models including V4 Pro, and cites third-party tests that put it ahead on performance, cost, speed and total runtime. So the useful question is not whether Pro is worth it, but whether you still have a task where Pro wins.
Both run on apimodels.app behind the same OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Over the last 30 days of external traffic, deepseek-v4.1-flash served 100,281 calls with 22 failures and deepseek-v4-pro 3,194 calls with 2 failures. Failed calls are not charged.
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash
The default
- ·Newer (10 Sep 2026); DeepSeek reports it ahead of V4 Pro on benchmarks
- ·$0.27 / $1.08 per 1M tokens at peak, $0.135 / $0.54 off-peak
- ·Off-peak covers nights, weekends and Chinese public holidays
DeepSeek V4 Pro
Only where your tests favour it
- ·Larger: 1.6T parameters, 49B active
- ·$1.247 / $3.742 per 1M tokens at peak, $0.624 / $1.871 off-peak
- ·Peak hours apply on every day, weekends included
Start on V4.1 Flash. Move a task to V4 Pro only after your own tests show Pro doing it better.

Price on apimodels.app
Per 1M tokens. Both follow DeepSeek’s peak / off-peak split, with peak at 01:00–04:00 and 06:00–10:00 UTC (09:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00 Beijing time). The calendars differ. For V4.1 Flash, peak applies Monday to Friday only, and weekends and Chinese public holidays bill at the off-peak rate all day, as on DeepSeek’s own API. For V4 Pro, the peak hours apply on every day of the week. V4.1 Flash is 10% below DeepSeek’s official price at every hour.
| Model | Input | Cached input | Output | When |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| V4.1 Flash | $0.27 | $0.0054 | $1.08 | peak, weekdays only |
| V4.1 Flash | $0.135 | $0.0027 | $0.54 | off-peak, weekends, holidays |

| V4 Pro | $0.624 | $0.0208 | $1.871 | off-peak |
What the same job costs on each
Take 10 million input tokens, half of them cache hits, plus 2 million output tokens. At peak that is about $3.54 on V4.1 Flash and about $13.93 on V4 Pro; off-peak, about $1.77 and $6.96. Pro costs roughly four times as much per token, so it only pays off where it saves you a rerun or a manual fix.
Which one to use
Use V4.1 Flash for chat, retrieval-augmented answers, agent loops, coding assistants, extraction and batch jobs. It is the newer model, DeepSeek reports it ahead on benchmarks, and its off-peak calendar matches DeepSeek’s own, so batch work scheduled outside Beijing working hours costs half.
Keep V4 Pro where you already have prompts and evaluations tuned on it and its results beat Flash, or for work you have measured and found Pro stronger at. Test before you decide: switching is a one-string change of the model field.
When not to go through us: if you already have a DeepSeek platform account funded in CNY and only use DeepSeek, calling DeepSeek directly is simpler. The case for apimodels.app is everything else: no Chinese phone number or real-name verification, one USD balance, and the same key for Claude, GPT, Gemini and the other models on the site.
Model ids and the old names
On apimodels.app use deepseek-v4.1-flash and deepseek-v4-pro. The older id deepseek-v4-flash still works and bills like V4.1 Flash, because DeepSeek retired V4 Flash and now serves that name with V4.1 Flash. On DeepSeek’s own pricing page, deepseek-v4-pro is listed as the DeepSeek-V4-Pro-0813 version.

What is the difference between DeepSeek V4 Pro and V4.1 Flash?
V4 Pro is the large V4 model (1.6T parameters, 49B active, GA on 13 August 2026). V4.1 Flash is newer (10 September 2026), a 552B mixture-of-experts model on a new architecture, and DeepSeek says it scores ahead of V4 Pro on benchmarks. Both have a 1M context, thinking mode and tool calls. On apimodels.app Flash costs $0.27 / $1.08 per 1M tokens at peak and Pro $1.247 / $3.742.
Is V4.1 Flash better than V4 Pro?
On DeepSeek’s own benchmarks, yes: its 10 September 2026 release note says V4.1 Flash delivers results ahead of flagship models including V4 Pro. Benchmarks are not your workload, so run your own prompts on both before moving production traffic; the switch is a one-string change.
How much more does V4 Pro cost than V4.1 Flash?
On apimodels.app, at peak, V4 Pro is $1.247 input and $3.742 output per 1M tokens against $0.27 and $1.08 for V4.1 Flash, roughly four times the input price and three and a half times the output price. Off-peak both halve: $0.624 / $1.871 for Pro and $0.135 / $0.54 for Flash.
When is off-peak, and is it the same for both?
Peak is 01:00–04:00 and 06:00–10:00 UTC (09:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00 Beijing time). For V4.1 Flash those hours count as peak only from Monday to Friday, and weekends and Chinese public holidays are off-peak all day. For V4 Pro the same hours are peak on every day, weekends included.
Which model id should I use? Does deepseek-v4-flash still work?
Use deepseek-v4.1-flash or deepseek-v4-pro. deepseek-v4-flash still works and bills like V4.1 Flash, since DeepSeek retired V4 Flash and serves that name with V4.1 Flash, so existing code keeps running.
