GPT Image API pricing: every version on one page

TL;DR One OpenAI-compatible APIMODELS key — reachable from China, no verification, pay-as-you-go. Base URL: https://api.apimodels.app/v1

Model pages: GPT Image 2 API · GPT Image 2.5 API · GPT Image 2.6 API — pricing, specs and the playground

apimodels.app serves six GPT Image models behind one OpenAI-compatible API key: gpt-image-2 and gpt-image-2-all (GPT Image 2), gpt-image-2.5-flare and gpt-image-2.5-sunburst (GPT Image 2.5), and gpt-image-2.6-flare and gpt-image-2.6-sunburst (GPT Image 2.6). The lowest fixed price is $0.01 per image, at 1K low on gpt-image-2-all and on either GPT Image 2.5 tier; GPT Image 2.6 bills per token at 10% below OpenAI's official rates, and a 1K low image from our tests comes to about $0.0069 at current rates. Pick GPT Image 2 or 2.5 when you want the price fixed before the call; pick 2.6 when you need animated GIF or SVG output, mask edits or markup-image edits.

Every model on this page runs on more than one upstream channel with automatic failover, and a failed request is never charged — that includes content-policy refusals, which make up most failures. No OpenAI account or organization verification is needed. The speed and reliability section below shows what the last seven days of production traffic actually looked like.

Fixed price per image: GPT Image 2 or 2.5. OpenAI SDK drop-in with a quality control: gpt-image-2-all. GIF, SVG, masks or markup edits: GPT Image 2.6.

All six GPT Image models at a glance

GPT Image 2.6 has no fixed price per image: quality, size, GIF frames, every reference image and the prompt all change the token count. The 2.6 figures are our own requests on 5 November 2026 (16:9, one image), re-stated at current rates, shown so you have a scale, not a quote. On apimodels.app 2.6 defaults to medium quality; the model's own default is high, which uses more tokens. SVG is the exception: a flat $0.0315 per image, text-to-image only.

gpt-image-2-all: price per image by resolution and quality

gpt-image-2 runs the same model at medium only, so it costs $0.025, $0.03 and $0.05 at 1K, 2K and 4K whatever quality you send. Use gpt-image-2-all when you want to drop to low for drafts or go to high for finals.

GPT Image 2.5: price per image, Flare and Sunburst

At 1K and 2K the two tiers bill the identical cell, so you are choosing speed and detail, not budget. Flare renders at medium unless you pass quality; Sunburst renders at high. Reference images and transparent backgrounds are included in the cell price.

Editing: what each version accepts

If your edit pipeline sends a mask, only GPT Image 2.6 takes it; GPT Image 2, 2 All and 2.5 reject a mask with a 400 rather than silently ignoring it. On those versions, keep an edit local by naming the object in the prompt, for example "change only the label on the bottle, keep everything else unchanged".

Speed and reliability, measured in production

GPT Image 2 and 2.5 figures cover the seven days to 5 November 2026: successful production calls, our own test traffic excluded, sample sizes not published. GPT Image 2.6 launched that day, so its row shows our test calls instead.

Most failures are refusals, not outages. Across these four models, content-policy refusals made up 83% to 99% of failed requests in the same period. A different prompt fixes those, and none of them is charged: the reserved credit is released and the call log records CONTENT_MODERATION.

Failover does real work. Between 3% and 8% of the images these models delivered came from an automatic switch to a backup channel after the first one failed. The request still succeeded and was billed once.

Which version to use

You want a predictable bill. Use GPT Image 2.5 Flare: $0.02 at 1K medium, $0.03 at 2K medium, a fixed cell for every size and quality, and the shortest median time on this page. Move a job to Sunburst when the image will be looked at closely; at 1K and 2K it costs the same per cell.

You already use the OpenAI SDK, Codex or Cursor. Use gpt-image-2-all: change base_url to https://api.apimodels.app/v1 and images.generate() and images.edit() work unchanged, synchronously, from $0.01 at 1K low.

You need GIF output, a mask or a marked-up edit. Use GPT Image 2.6 Flare, and Sunburst for edits that must stay tightly scoped over many rounds. Budget from your own test calls: per-token billing means the price follows what you ask for.

When not to switch. If your GPT Image 2 pipeline works and nothing on this page is missing from it, staying on gpt-image-2 at $0.025 per 1K image is a reasonable choice; 2.6 is worth the move for its new abilities, not as a drop-in upgrade.

FAQ

What is the most affordable GPT Image API?

On apimodels.app the lowest fixed price is $0.01 per image: gpt-image-2-all at 1K low, and GPT Image 2.5 Flare or Sunburst at 1K low. At 2K, GPT Image 2.5 starts at $0.02 and gpt-image-2-all at $0.025. GPT Image 2.6 bills per token at 10% below OpenAI's official rates; our 1K low test request comes to about $0.0069 at current rates, and its SVG output is a flat $0.0315. Failed requests are never charged, so refusals and errors do not add to the bill.

Does the GPT Image API on apimodels.app work with the OpenAI SDK?

Yes. Set base_url to https://api.apimodels.app/v1 and use your apimodels.app key. gpt-image-2-all is the drop-in choice: images.generate() and images.edit() return synchronously, exactly as the OpenAI SDK expects. GPT Image 2.5 and 2.6 also answer synchronously when you pass an OpenAI-style WxH size; without one they return a taskId to poll.

Which GPT Image version supports mask editing?

Only GPT Image 2.6. It accepts a mask (white marks the area to change, black the area to keep) or a markup image drawn over the first reference, but not both in one request. GPT Image 2, 2 All and 2.5 return a 400 for a mask; on those, name the region you want changed in the prompt.

Am I charged when a GPT Image request fails or is refused?

No. Credits are reserved when the request is accepted and released automatically if it fails, whether the cause is a timeout, an upstream error or a content-policy refusal. Refusals are logged as CONTENT_MODERATION in your call records. In the last seven days they made up 83% to 99% of failed GPT Image 2 and 2.5 requests.

How long does a GPT Image API call take?

Production medians for the last seven days at 1K: about 35 s on gpt-image-2.5-flare, 45 s on gpt-image-2.5-sunburst, and 61 to 62 s on gpt-image-2 and gpt-image-2-all, with p90 between 65 s and 129 s. GPT Image 2.6 returned a 1K low image in about 20 s in our tests, and 2K or 4K in 13 to 25 s. Set client timeouts with headroom above the p90.

Do I need OpenAI organization verification to use GPT Image?

No. You sign up at apimodels.app, create one API key and call any of the six GPT Image models with it; no OpenAI account or organization verification is involved. The same key also works for the rest of the catalogue, from Nano Banana and Seedream to video and language models.
